Queer Methods Lab

Oct 27 - Nov 1, 2025

Gallery 3

From October 27 through November 1, Gallery 3 is transformed into a dynamic third space of pedagogical accumulation. This intervention is initiated by faculty, Patryk Stasieczek, and their Queer Methods Lab (PHOT-3410) course. The activation program highlights classroom activities and subverts the expectations for exhibition practice while spotlighting the pedagogical mandate that initiated Anna Leonowens’ gallery systems at NSCAD University in 1968.

The week-long series includes History of Animation (AHIS-2820/FHIS-2820), Survey of 19th Century Art (AHIS-2010), Strategic Fictions (AHIS-3140), Introductory Photography (PHOT-2001), and Animation Studio 1 (FILM-3101). It invites the accumulation of material residues from the sections brought into the gallery by faculty members Becka Barker, Karin Cope, and Vajdon Sohaili and their students. The schedule of activities in connection with Queer Methods Lab (PHOT-3410) embraces a collaborative and experimental approach to the classroom, culminating in a showcase of the methods that lend into the curricular pathways for research, collaboration, and creative output, queerly.

The program begins with an opening that re/frames the gallery into a dance floor, the queerest pedagogical site. This dance event is supported by the NSCAD Office of Student Experience. Entry is via the back door of Gallery 3 on Hollis Street, Monday, October 27 starting at 6PM and running until 10PM.
