Step into the colourful surreal world of “Petra Phantasma” , a solo painting exhibition by Petra Bouwers. Phantasma is defined as both a figment of the imagination or as ghost or specter. Throughout the work presented Bouwers' experiments with how presence can be suggested without literal depiction, and how a sense of spirit can emerge through colour, scale, and abstraction. Phantasms represent difficult concepts such as grief, displacement, and the shifting relationship between rural and urban landscapes. Change can be an ever looming presence much like a ghost.
