MFA thesis exhibition

Forbes Sang's thesis exhibition “Mulligan” examines histories of exclusion within the sport of golf through a focused lens on Truro, Nova Scotia, and the Black community that resides on West Prince Street. The work is centred on the Apex Invitational, a tournament created in response to racial exclusion from the Truro Golf and Country Club. The project explores how leisure, joy, and collective gathering can function as resistance. Through archival images, community engagement, personal narrative, and material-based artworks using grass and sugar, the work traces golf’s colonial histories and systems of access. By foregrounding local stories, the project reframes golf as a cultural space shaped by race, memory, and belonging, where community continues to assert visibility and resilience.
