Winter 2024 Job Opportunity: Graduation Exhibition Curatorial Intern
Graduation Exhibition Curatorial Intern (NSCAD undergraduate position):
January - May, 2024
Deadline to apply: Wednesday 3 January, 2024 @ 5pm
Since 1968 the Anna Leonowens Gallery has been devoted to the exhibition of contemporary studio and media art, craft and design, and curatorial projects generated exclusively within the NSCAD community. Weekly exhibitions primarily feature student work, with occasional shows by faculty members, visiting artists and curators, and graduate thesis projects. To date Anna Leonowens Gallery has mounted over 4750 exhibitions, with many NSCAD students having shown their artwork publicly for the first time. A critical yet nurturing environment, the galleries are a key component of a student's education into the realities of life as a practicing artist. Unique within the Canadian university system, the galleries allow students to experience the full template for future exhibition practices.
A student Intern will be responsible for organizing the Graduation 2024 Graduation Exhibition as hosted by the Anna Leonowens Gallery. This internship will include preparatory administrative work plus overseeing the design, installation and dismantling of the exhibition during graduation week.
The Graduation Exhibition intern will work closely with Gallery staff while acting as liaisons with the Graduation Committee, and the Registrar’s Office. The preferred intern should be a senior student, but it is not necessary that they are graduating in 2024.
Of the required hours for the internship, 10 hours will be mandatory at the Gallery, assisting with weekly administrative and technical gallery operations. Through this hands-on experience, the intern will become informed of the various practices embedded within the gallery’s mission. The remaining hours will be devoted to independent research and preparation work required for the exhibition.
