The Treaty Space Gallery welcomes Buffy Googoo!
The Treaty Space Gallery is excited to welcome Buffy Googoo to the new position of Treaty Education Curatorial Assistant. Buffy will be working closely with Natalie Laurin, the Exhibitions Coordinator of the Treaty Space Gallery to help organise and plan events for the academic year of 2024/2025.
Buffy is a Mi’kmaq artist originally from We’koqma’q First Nation, Mi’kma’ki. She studied at NSCAD and graduated in May 2024 with a Bachelor Fine Arts (focus in painting) and two minors in Art History and Illustration. Her inspirations as an artist come from her connections to imagery and reflecting on her unique perspective growing up on the reservation. Most of her art practice is oil-based painting or digital illustration.
Through her position at the Treaty Space, she hopes to facilitate opportunities for other Indigenous artists to promote and celebrate their work in the gallery. She will be working towards the goal of supporting and connecting with peers, helping them gain the confidence as Indigenous artists to share their culture and experiences.
This position is funded by the Young Canada Works, Building Careers in Heritage.
