EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: Visiting Artist Coordinator

The Visiting Artists Coordinator (VAC) is responsible for coordinating the various stakeholders in the Visiting Artists programs at NSCAD, including students, faculty, events, alumni relations, finance, the Anna Leonowens Gallery, amongst others. The position is driven by the growth opportunities the historic Visiting Artist Program at NSCAD available through new funding streams and strategic planning. The primary purpose of this position is to provide planning and pre-visiting artist assistance to the Director and support the growth of the visiting artist program. The VAC works with and is accountable to the Director of the Anna Leonowens Gallery in delivering student and faculty-oriented services in support of the University's visiting artist goals. This position reports to the Gallery Director, as well as the Vice-President (Academic and Research) and Provost (VPARP), and requires the ability to work independently, with strong planning, organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

Pre-Award Grant Administration

  • Assembling the master list of potential visiting artists from stakeholder input.
  • Drafting and internal advertising of yearly visiting artist schedule.
  • Coordinating input of faculty and stakeholders- Semesterly call for meeting with Chairs+Directors.
  • Facilitate maximization of visiting artist engagement through various stakeholders

  • Draft contract for visiting artists in conjunction with Director.

On-Going Role and Communication

  • Keeps up to date on visiting artists in what continues to be a rapidly expanding and complex array of schedules.
  • Ensures our NSCAD community is kept informed, in a timely manner, of emerging VA opportunities, program changes, and deadline information, and events.
  • Maintains and develops content for University communication materials, as appropriate.
  • Evaluates current procedures and as required, identifies and recommends changes or improvements to internal policies and procedures in order to better facilitate the Visiting artist process.

Visiting Artist Administration:

  • As a file owner for VA records, ensures the Visiting Artist records contain current information and data related to their visit, practice, and that electronic files are kept up to date.
  • Provides on-going maintenance of VA files, and acts as first point of contact for any amendment to the Visiting Artist schedule, including extensions.

Qualifications

University degree and a minimum of 2 years related experiience is required. A equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. High level of flexibility and ability to adapt to changing workloads and priorities required. Ability to provide accurate information professionally, courteously and in a timely manner, respecting appropriate confidentialities, is required. Good knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) and social media is required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong time management, organizational and interpersonal skills are required. Experience in public speaking is considered an asset.
