Community collaborative project

CLOSING RECEPTION: 5 April, 3–5PM

Sydney Wreaks offers:
Beading as Community Counter-Mapping is a participatory, community-based art project that prioritizes Indigenous beadwork teachings when considering our relationships to the land in our communities. Participants were asked to create beaded ‘land-marks’—items that emphasize or are connected to the land in their communities. When considering each land-mark, participants considered these questions: How does the land take care of us? How is that information shared across generations? How can accessing that information become a way to disrupt colonial understandings of the land?
