Jiang offers: “Animals survive just as humans do. While we consider ourselves the most intelligent creatures amongst all other animals on the planet, are animals not enlightened? Throughout history, we’ve written numerous religious texts employing animals as symbols of human sin, envy, greed and lust. In my exhibition of carvings, I’ve depicted innocent, living creatures that have been given these intentional meanings. Through these works, I am asking: Why do we use animals to symbolize aspects of human behaviour without realizing we have been judging with prejudice, arrogance and egotism?”
