MFA Thesis exhibition
In Blood Relations, Hosmer investigates intergenerational illness and seeks to destigmatize menstruation through storytelling and experimental film processes. Endometriosis, a disease in which the body produces excess endometrium tissue, impacts roughly 10-15% of people who menstruate globally. Despite those high numbers, many are unaware of this condition and its impact on those living with it due to the cultural shame surrounding periods. To make this invisible illness visible, this exhibition features a mixture of self-portraits and community portraits. The film is processed with a homemade raspberry leaf developer because of its significance as an ancient uterine medicine.
