Marie Webb: 2024 Sow to Sew Artist-in-Residence with Masoomeh Salimi Beni, Ruben Francis, April Beattie and Weiming Du

https://lemonadestanddesigns.com/ SEWING WITH THE FLOW: MARIE WEBB’S DESIGNS TAKE NSCAD STUDENTS TO NEW YORK FASH…

Oct 15 - 26, 2024

Gallery 2

Halifax-based fashion and textile designer Marie Webb centres fearless and boldly colourful designs in her work that illustrate her life experiences as a young woman with Down syndrome. Webb was the inaugural Artist-in-Residence for the Sow the Sew Project in NSCAD’s Textiles/Fashion Department during summer 2024. During her residency, Webb collaborated with NSCAD fashion students Masoomeh Salimi Beni, Ruben Francis, April Beattie and Weiming Du, who were mentored by Assistant Professor Leesa Hamilton, to interpret her designs into a collection for New York Fashion Week. This exhibition showcases the final collection which debuted on the runway in New York City in September 2024, alongside documentation of the team’s process to produce the garments.

Halifax fashion and textile designer Marie Webb expresses a unique vision of love, joyfulness and spirit through an eclectic use of vibrant color and bold forms. Her limitless creative stamina and celebratory outlook on life sets her apart—making her an unstoppable, radical source of inspiration.
