WORKSHOP: Performance Art w/ Peter Morin and Ayumi Goto (Pt.2)
-
Online - Zoom
for self-identifying 2SLGBTQ+, Indigenous, Black and People of Colour NSCAD students (3rd and 4th year undergrad and graduate)
Description: Goto and Morin prioritize the body through a series of experimental movements, a collection of gestures that lean towards becoming radical, and looking at ourselves and each other moving through the land. This performance workshop offers participants opportunities to develop a deeper sense of what collaboration means, keeping in mind that the coming together of bodies through a performance art matrix can mean a revolution of experience(s).
This is Part 2 - you must register and participate in Part 1 to attend.
(Space is limited to ten participants.) There is no fee for this workshop.
Once you sign up, we will be in touch regarding details. We are also available to answer any questions. Leah Decter: ldecter@nscad.ca, Carla Taunton: ctaunton@nscad.ca
This workshop is offered in conjunction with the Beyond Unsettling Speaker Series which is co-presented by the Centre for inter-Media Art and Decolonial Expression (CiMADE), the Anna Leonowens Art Gallery and NSCAD University.
Bio/s: Peter Morin and Ayumi Goto are best friends and performance artists. They sing together. They laugh together. They cry together. They debate ideas and plan for the destruction of the european colonization of canada. Morin and Goto have exhibited throughout canada and internationally. Morin is an Associate Professor at the Ontario College of Art and Design University, where Goto is also somewhat employed as Adjunct Professor while developing as a diasporic scholar. Morin sits on many boards for arts organizations. Goto tries to spend as much time as possible in forested areas. Morin and Goto recently launched PMAG: The Children’s Show at On the Fringe Film Festival in North Bay. Their performance and installation, The Crow and Salmon Live Everywhere opened in November 2021 at Trinity Square Video in Toronto. As a grouped solo show, they have been inspired by and collaborating deeply with best friend artists, Patricio Davila and Immony Men, and the magnificent composer/musician Parmela Attariwala. Also, Morin and Goto like to jump and clap loudly.
