Participatory Reading of the TRC 94 Calls to Action

Tuesday, Jan 24 20234 - 6pm

NSCAD Academy Campus, 1649 Brunswick St.

NEXT IN-PERSON RECORDING DATE TBD

Call for Participation: Participatory Reading of the TRC 94 Calls to Action

NSCAD’s Treaty Space Gallery and the Centre for inter-Media Arts and Decolonial Expression (CiMADE) Lab are seeking participants to read aloud the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action. The reciting of each call will be recorded and compiled into an audio piece that will be exhibited in the Treaty Space Gallery. Its purpose is to remind us of our role as treaty people, and to highlight the role that governments, communities and faith groups have in making reparations to Indigenous peoples.

The TRC’s Final Report was released seven years ago, but many of the Calls to Action have not yet been implemented. These calls are in place “to redress the legacy of residential schools and advance the process of Canadian reconciliation.” If you would like to engage in this participatory reading, please sign up here to read one or more of the Calls to Action. Multiple people can be recorded reciting the same Call.

We will be hosting the first of a series of in-person gatherings to read, record, and discuss the calls to action on Tuesday January 24th from 4-6pm at the CiMADE Lab space (Room 007, Academy Campus). Join us for refreshments, readings, and action!
