Over the month of June 2025, artists Sonia Chow, Charlotte Little and Maggie Sigrid Wilde were artists-in-residence in NSCAD’s Textiles/Fashion Department as part of the Sow to Sew Summer 2025 Artist Residency themed on flax. Hosted by the Sow to Sew Project in partnership with the Flax Fibre to Fabric Project, the artists worked with locally grown and processed flax to explore the material qualities of flax fibre and its by-products through felting and papermaking techniques (Chow), weaving (Little) and ropemaking (Wilde). Alongside the group exhibition presenting the outcomes from the residency at the Anna Leonowens Gallery from September 15-27, 2025, the artists will discuss their respective approaches to working with flax, what they learned from the process and their broader artistic research.
The Sow to Sew Speakers’ Series is part of the Sow the Sew Project at NSCAD University, which is funded by a generous donation from The Hilary and Galen Weston Foundation.
