Artist Talk: Karine Fréchette, William and Isabel Pope Artist-in-Residence

Wednesday, Nov 23 202212 - 1pm

Anna Leonowens Gallery

Karine Fréchette will provide a talk about the work in her exhibition "Reflecting Pools II" on view in Gallery 1 at the Anna Leonowens Gallery. Fréchette offers “This project is an iteration of a continuous reflection about natural phenomena and technology, media representations and painting. Starting from digital sketches and observation of natural processes, the source material is optically distorted, rendered until it almost disappears, and then filtered again through the pictorial gesture. Fleeting data appears tangible and fluid, it's ongoing movement and mutation becoming visible. These paintings, partly emerged from my time in residence, feed from a fascination with the relationship between art history and the development of optical devices, and explore new technological tools available to a painter.”
