CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Indigenous Groups Educational Poster Series

SUBMISSIONS CLOSED

NSCAD University’s Treaty Space Gallery and the Centre for inter-Media Art and Decolonial Expression (CiMADE) Lab are seeking completed artworks to be used as part of an educational poster campaign that will be exhibited on campus in the Treaty Space Gallery (Port Campus),  the CiMADE Lab (Academy 007) and the NSCAD Learning Commons (Fountain Campus). This call is open to NSCAD students, alumni, and attendees belonging to one or more of the three Indigenous groups within Canada: First Nations, Inuit, and Métis.

One submission will be selected from each of the abovementioned groups for a total of three (3) successful submissions. Each of the works will be reproduced with accompanying text describing these 3 distinct peoples with unique histories, languages, cultural practices, and spiritual beliefs.

Each of the successful applicants will receive a $300 reproduction fee, above the recommended CARFAC Fee for Non-Commercial, Non-advertising fee schedule (Section 2, B.4.4).

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

Please submit images of previously completed artwork that reflects elements of the Indigenous culture you belong to. Please do not create new artwork for this submission as the fee we offer covers reproduction only, not the labour of creating new work. Original artwork can be in any medium as it will be digitally reproduced as a 2D print. You could consider photoshopping multiple works of a series into one image. For example: a series of beaded works organized as a grid. If the artwork has not been documented for print reproduction, we will make arrangements for this to be completed should it be selected. Images of selected artworks will be showcased as 2D prints alongside an informational writeup.

Email submissions to annaleonowens@nscad.ca with subject line “Indigenous Groups Poster Series”. Submissions should include:

  • Up to three (3) images per submission. One (1) submission per applicant.
  • A brief bio, including what Indigenous group you belong to
  • A summary or artist statement about the submitted work
  • Artwork description: title, medium, size, date created.
  • Please list any collaborators or image credit if you did not take the photo yourself
