"Character as Material" consists of a series of prints. As a new immigrant and artist, Yongxuan Zheng incorporates his experiences of living in a different country, such as language barriers and cultural shock, into his works. Using Chinese characters, an ancient hieroglyphic script, as a material to combine with different printmaking mediums. By immersing the audience in images composed of characters, it awakens people's visual impression of Eastern culture and allows them to think about how people of different cultures understand each other and how to deal with the challenges brought about by globalization.
