Take Care: Recipes for Remembering, is an intricate look at Thomas’ matrilineal Italian heritage through the lens of film, fibre and embodiment. Using her grandmother’s tomato sauce recipe as the base of the work, Thomas attempts to preserve her grandmother’s waning memory through taste while celebrating food as a central language of care. Examining family home videos as archived memory, the artist mirrors the gestures of her mother and grandmother in an attempt to make visible the invisible labor of mothering.
