Do-it-Yourself Shelters for the Wasteland Habitat!
Melanie Barnett & Lachlan Sheldrick

Jul 18 - 22, 2023

Gallery 3

Duo exhibition

In the context of climate catastrophe, momentous global ecological shifts, and widening economic divides, the necessity for sustainable and equitable models of living has become more evident. Through their collaborative practice, Barnett and Sheldrick draw upon counterculture, survivalist, and DIY movements to imagine a speculative post-industrial and post-apocalyptic future of survival, self-sufficiency, and sustainability. Through large installations constructed from scavenged and re-used materials, the artists engage with the post-apocalyptic and post-capitalist narratives common to their existing practices, uniting their disparate material and technical approaches.
