This installation explores the ways that institutions in so-called Canada have situated Indigenous peoples within a settler mythology of belonging. By using an image of the Nova Scotia crest that depicts an Indigenous man alongside a unicorn and overlaying typeset text on top of this loaded colonial symbol, the work challenges the narrative of romanticized subjugation and invites reflection on the Indigenous reclamation of racist imagery in art.
