Art Work Care Work: Portraits of Artist/M(others)
Claire Drummond

@Claire__Drummond

Apr 4 - 15, 2023

Gallery 2

MFA Thesis exhibition

Art Work Care Work: Portraits of Artist/M(others) presents a series of large-scale oil paintings of local artists and m(others) as a protest against the long-held idea in the art world that one cannot be both. M(others) in this work encompass the other, including gender non-conforming and queer folks who see themselves engaged in sustaining life. This body of work seeks to render visible the challenges of making creative work while m(othering), while also meditating on the ways in which the cohabitation of art and care work can create space for a more communal vision of human subjectivity.
