The Speaking Subject
Brody Weaver

@BrodyWeaver Website

Jan 31 - Feb 4, 2023

Gallery 3

Undergraduate exhibitor

In The Speaking Subject, Brody Weaver presents media artworks created over the past four years that document her sustained investigations into gender and sexuality as they intersect with contemporary and historical life. The exhibition title is drawn from transfeminist theory that centres the voice of the medicalized trans subject, signalling the production of knowledge by the trans subject who has historically been the object of inquiry. Addressing processes of medicalization and institutionalization, a run-through aspect of the works is their consideration and representation of voice, power, and platform in the production of cultural knowledge.
