These still-life oil paintings and watercolour drawings explore relationships in the process of change, reflection, and healing. They are intended to be reminiscent of figurative painting, portraiture, and self-portraiture. Taking initial cues from works by Giorgio Morandi and Vija Celmins, the blue glass medicine bottles — which hold personal meaning for the artist — have been intentionally arranged and lit using various LED light colours. The composition of each piece serves to anthropomorphize the objects, while the lighting colours affect the mood and narrative. What started as technical exercises ended up as a surprisingly intimate body of work.
