Visiting Artist Talk: Sarah Gregg Millman (in-person and online)

Thursday, Mar 23 202312 - 1pm

NSCAD Learning Commons

We are excited to announce an in-person & online talk by NSCAD Alumni, Sarah Gregg Millman on Thursday, 23 March at 11am ADT. To attend online, follow this link and use the password m07pxC

Sarah will be discussing LOCAL WOMAN, her made-to-order clothing line that takes inspiration from an elegant timelessness, and embraces a dedication to artisanship, whimsy, and tradition, established in 2020.

The collections are small-run and often limited-edition. Emphasis is placed on sourcing unique and occasionally upcycled and deadstock fabrics.
The brands core values are slow growth, local production, and an ongoing goal of sustainability.

Sewists and technical designers are Toronto-based, and paid a living wage. The line is designed in Toronto, Canada, and is exclusively hand-built, with great attention to detail. The made-to-order model encourages obtaining only what is needed for production - with off-cuts treated as precious, and used for design of other items. Nothing goes to waste, and resourcefulness is celebrated.

LOCAL WOMAN’s philosophy is that small movements can lead to big change.

Medium dark grey background, with model collaged onto background. Model is light skinned with long and dark brown hair, crouching in brightly coloured and striped outfit, with phone in front of face to take photo. Black text at bottom reads ‘LOCAL WOMAN
2019 Graduation exhibition installation. Small drawings and found objects are on the wall next to a textile hanging.

The Anna Leonowens Gallery Systems is a public exhibition space within NSCAD University, presenting professional exhibitions by established artists alongside graduating student exhibitions.
